Home and School Association
The Mission of the Home and School Association is to help parents and teachers to develop a mutual understanding and appreciation of the ideals of Catholic education. St. John the Evangelist School Home and School Association shall provide for programs, opportunities and funds which will assist the student's development in a lifestyle grounded in values. St. John the Evangelist School is enhanced by the ability of parents to participate actively and effectively in their child's education.
There are several different programs throughout the school year to volunteer your time and talents. They include:
Enrichment Program: A group of parents and a faculty advisor review contests, fairs or promotions for students to enter. They provide academic and social extras for our students, including events during Catholic School Week in January. Volunteering for this very dynamic committee is a way to help directly affect the children's learning experience.
Lunch Program: Lunches are provided to our students through this program. One volunteer needed (knowledge of Excel a plus) to coordinate with restaurants and record orders when placed. Orders are placed in September and January.
Hospitality: This committee provides the niceties of certain events thru the year. Coordinating, providing, and displaying food on certain events such as: Report Card Night, Open Houses, Meet the Teachers night, and our Teacher and Staff Appreciation luncheon.
Silent Auction: The first of St. John the Evangelist School's major fundraisers, held in late autumn. Volunteers are needed for recruiting sponsors, solicitating auction items, set up, night of event and clean up.
SCRIPS: The Scrips program is relatively new to St. John the Evangelist School and allows participants to buy gift cards to retailers and service companies throughout the United States. Volunteers coordinate the orders for submission each week.
Yankee Candle: A St. John the Evangelist School tradition, the Yankee Candle fall fundraiser is always one of our most successful fundraisers. Volunteers needed to help distribute orders usually before and/or after school.
Innisbrook: New Fundraiser, offering gift wrap and small gift ideas. Volunteers needed to help distribute orders usually before and/or after school.
Lyman Orchard Pies: Each year, just in time for Thanksgiving we sell pies from Lyman Orchards.
Wreath Sale: The H.S.A. offers some of the freshest most beautiful Christmas wreaths in Watertown for sale. Volunteers tie red bows in advance add them to each wreath and sell them on Thanksgiving weekend at the church. The wreath sale is a fun way to contribute your time and get into the holiday spirit.
Secret Santa: A great way for the St. John the Evangelist School students to do their family Christmas shopping! The Secret Sant program provides a selection of modestly priced gifts for the children to purchase. Volunteers are needed to help with the pricing and set up, as well as assist the children the day of the event and clean up. Santa drops in for the day and the volunteers have as much fun as the children.
Fascia's Chocolate: Each year, the sale of these delicious treats is a big hit. Volunteers are needed to coordinate the sale and distribute the orders.
Pasta Plus: A St. John the Evangelist School tradition. D'Amelio's Italian Eatery works with St. John the Evangelist School to sell classic Italian meals. Eat in or take out. Volunteers needed for planning/set up/serving/clean up.
Book Fair: St. John the Evangelist School holds a book fair each year to benefit the school library. Volunteers are needed to coordinate the event set up, work the event and clean up.
Talent Show: St. John the Evangelist School will be hosting its second talent show this year. Volunteers are needed to coordinate the event, set up, work the event and clean up.
Father-Daughter Dance: St. John the Evangelist School will be hosting its third annual Father-Daughter Dance. Volunteers are needed to coordinate the event, donate food items, set up, work the event and clean up.
Spirit Day: Every year St. John the Evangelist School goes to Quassy Amusement Park for a day of rides, sports, food, and fun. Volunteers are needed to coordinate the event, chaperone classes, set up, work the event and clean up.
Golf Tournament: The second of our major fundraisers, the annual Golf Tournament is held each Spring at a nearby course. Golfers of all levels are always welcome. In addition, volunteers are needed to promote the event, obtain raffle prizes, and assist during the tournament.
